Work on heavy equipment, such as excavators, requires proper equipment maintenance. Unfortunately, proper excavator track maintenance is often compromised when using crawler excavators. Even though the rails carry the total weight of the machine, they do not pay much attention to them. That’s why it’s essential to adjust your excavator’s track tension and stop the excavator track from squeaking.
Elevation
First, you must ensure the excavator’s upper structure rotates to put the boom at a 90-degree angle from the travel direction. Next, to ensure the track tension is correct, place the arm in a perpendicular position to the ground, and the bucket is level with the ground. Finally, you must push the boom to elevate and suspend the track on one side above ground level.
When operating a crawler excavator, be sure to do so on the high side of the crawler. Take several turns with the track to remove loose binding links or debris. After stopping the track, place the hydraulic safety switch on the excavator when the track is suspended.
Take Measurements in Excavator Track Maintenance
Have the worker measure the routes in the cab. Then, let him measure the track from the bottom to the top of the track shoe as it hangs at the lowest point. Once you have the dimensions, you can compare them with the appropriate voltage in the user manual.
The Grease
The adjuster cylinder’s grease is necessary to maintain track tension. If you need to make any changes, see the user guide for instructions. You can see the adjustment settings for the grease on the frame of the track, close to the idler.
If you need to tighten the track, you can inject grease using a grease gun. If you need to loosen the track, you can use a wrench and remove the fittings to release the lubricant. Ensure you wear the correct safety gear as the lubricant is under pressure. If you are not sure how to handle this yourself, you can ask your local heavy equipment dealer for help. If you are looking for and buying used cat excavators, make sure you also know the specific details of the equipment. This will make it easier for you to maintain your crawler excavator.
